HI, Has anyone ever installed a HEI or DUI ignition in a 1989 4.2 YJ. If so, what kind and were there any improvements in performance?
Thanks

Anybody else ever think DUI is an odd name for an ignition?
I did the HEI to my 258 in my 90YJ and love it. It's a pretty easy upgrade and can be done in ones driveway. The jeep is now got some more "pep" and the mileage has increased.

I know what it's called. Don't you just think it's a strange name for any car part? Just always struck me wierd.
Hey, where'd you get those door instructions you sent me the other day. They are SO much better than what was in my haynes manual. Just curious, was it a factory service manual or Chilton, or a newer version of my Haynes?
Do you have a subscription? Or happened to have the manual already?
I did in a '79 CJ5. I put in an HEI. Yes it makes a difference. it runs smoother especially when going to higher altitudes. It hesitates less etc etc. power increase ? I don't really think there is a power increase ..(other then that the engine runs smoother so it does what you want it to) I put on a weber carb too (that with the new ignition makes a real nice difference.) I got the distributor from a salvage yard (for $15 from a chevy 260-something I believe, you have to swap the gear for one out of a V8 AMC engine.)
