hard top scratch question?

scratched my hard top past the top coat (khaki) is there paint available to put over the scratch to protect it? it does n ot seem like paint material. is that a different substance that i cannot cover up? Gene

Okay, I'll try a helpful response.  I think the top's not actually paintas you say.  Actually, I think it's a gel-coat.  I'd try two routes.  Checkwith a body shop and see if they do gel-coat touch ups.  Or, stop by amarine shop and see what they think.  I might be wrong about the gel-coatbut these two routes will get you someone who can hook you up.  My guess isthat this is something you'd be better off letting a professional touch upfor ya.  Your top's fiberglass so you don't have to worry about "protecting" itlike a scratch which bares metal to rust.  Depending on where the scratch isand how bad it is will tell you if you need to bother with it, i.e.  Scratchvs. gouge vs. gash & flat panel vs. stressed corner, etc.  Hope this helps to keep it looking good.  You really ought to take thatthing out and get it so dirty you need a garden hose to clean it though:)  Regards,    Jim
