Just looking in

It's been a few months and it appears as if things have gotten somewhat back to normal. I have missed the group, and I am glad those of you who are still here have been able to stick it out. I just didn't have the time to go through all the crap.

I have been busy in my absence, however. The TJ has undergone some major work. In June my rear Dana 35 finally let go, the cross-shaft pinions broke. It was drivable but it didn't like it when I had to steer :-)

Trying to get the cross-shaft out, however, was another matter. That thing just didn't want to come out, I think when the gears let go the shaft got bent or the diff carrier distorted. In my zeal to try to get it out it's now damaged beyond repair. The only way it's coming out now is with a plasma cutter.

So when I was looking to upgrade, I was pricing out new 44's and 9" axles, which were way to pricey. Looking to eBay, I scored a set of axles (front

30, rear 44) from an '04 TJL that the owner had built with 4.88's, ARB lockers, Currie tierod/draglink, and chromoly axleshafts. It also had Spidertrax 5.5: lug adapters, which I don't need right now, but I intend to hold onto them.

So the last few weeks I have been working a little bit at a time on getting the new axles in. As with most projects, it cost a little more as I had to replace the Rubicon Express LCA's. Here in the rust belt, the flex joints were completely seized, I have to put rebuilding those on my list of annual maintenance procedures. Also needed new E-brake cables and will soon replace the brake proportioning valve.

A couple weeks ago the new rear driveshaft arrived and I am now able to drive it. I have yet to hook up the air lockers but I do have most of the parts ready. I already have onboard air so I had to get two ARB solenoids, a regulator and associated plumbing & electrical parts.

So now I have a busted 35 (R &P are OK, as are axleshafts, but it will need a new diff carrier, and the drum brakes are disassembled) and a good condition front Dana 30, complete with brakes & rotors, 4.56, and a Detroit True Trac limited slip. If anyone is in need of a front TJ/XJ axle so equipped, email me at mlmacchiarolo at comcast dot net.

The old axles were ABS equipped, and the new ones are not, so I have removed the ABS controller & G-switch as well, and will removed the pump when I replace the proportioning valve. So I have those parts to, along with the wheel sensors.

At any rate, I am glad things have cooled off here and we can get back to discussing Jeeps.

I stopped reading a long time ago, checking in every few months to see if anything had changed. This is much better, more like it used to be.

Yeah, it's been nice not having Bill Hughes and his knobs hanging around.

Good to see you Matt,

I've been looking in now and then. Been too busy wheelin and working on my rig to pay much attention to this group. Most of my online time is spent with the guys in the club... troll free zone, rowdy at times, but nice folks.

We just got back from a three day trip to Superlift. I am SO proud of my rig.

There were some long arm rigs up there and some with bigger badder rigs that had to be winched (experienced drivers too!) in several places where my rig went right on up... "Hyaaah! Get up big horse!!"

Since January my rig has undergone a startling transformation. From nearly bone stock to: Rough Country 4" X series-lift, Rough Country Diff Guards Rough Country Steering skid brace Rough Country Winch plate Rough Country Performance 2.2 shocks Rough Country steering stabilizer JKS 1.25" BL 1"MML, JKS Track Bar

5.13 Gears, Tom Woods CV Driveshaft SwayLOC, Selby Rock rails, DickHard rear bumper & swing away tire carrier Warn M8000, Carr Rota Light bar w/a 6 pack, 15 x 10 Cepek DC-1 wheels & 33" Cepek Mud Country Tires Cobra 75wxst w/ 4' Firestick Aww Shit handles HD Rear shackles Superlift TruSpeed Iron Rock Tie Rod Tom Woods CV driveshaft We still have a ways to go, after this trip, I am putting a TummyTuck, new DickHard front bumper and Phantom Tube fenders on my short list.

The tummytuck I can justify, my belly pan is about 1/8" away from my driveshaft right now.

Now, I've just got to figure out how I'm going to pull the money out of my butt to pay for it all.

K.

Funny thing is, I did fight the trolls but as I said before I have a life outside this group, and I got sick of reporting to snipped-for-privacy@whoever.com twenty times a day because it wasn't doing any good. But this asshat doesn't know that or doesn't care.

Yo, all of you who are nursing old wounds...the only way to "fight trolls" then and now is to walk away.

Bullshit. You can't "fight" trolls unless you know where they live. Every time you take the bait they win. Never reply to them and they get tired of flapping their wings. I suppose you buy stuff from spammers?

Hi Matt. Havent done much jeepster building here, been building motorcycles and going on road trips all summer.

actually the way to fight against trolls is to fight all out like bill hughes did and the rest of you were too chicken to join in just because maybe he wasnt quite politically correct enough for most of you which is a shame

you take all the credit when bill did all the dirty work

I am. In spite of the temptation to ridicule the pathetic piss-ants, I did the right thing.
