Oh snap! What should I do!?!?!?

The plan was to save up the $ to buy a CJ-5 or CJ-7 but I just ran across one that is VERY local to me...details:

1980 cj7: 5k on chevy 350 convert 80%complete, 2in lift, 31s, 15x10 chrome wheels, paint 3yo, no rust, cd, chrome everything, 4spd, hardtop, full doors, bikini, rhino lined, diamond plate body protection, rancho shocks, wrangler interior, power steering, fan, tach, clock, tilt steering wheel, leather wrapped push bar, entry steps, laredo package, school + new house = no project money!

Vehicle Features: Audio with CD/Cassette 2 Door Four Wheel Drive

8 Cylinder Engine Unleaded Fuel Power Steering Manual Transmission Doors (Full) Full Size Spare Hard Top Off Road Lights Oversized Tires Roll Bars Spare Tire Cover

There are pictures of it, too, and it looks sharp! I just emailed him asking what the extra 20% was that needed to be done...

Obviously look at the pictures and find out what needs to be done to make it drive. The problem with buying a vehicle that doesn't run is that you can't check out anything else (tranny, t-case, diffs) by driving it.

You have to take the sellers word for a lot of things.

What axles does it have? Stock would be: Rear- AMC20 Front- Dana 30 Tranny: SR4 or T176 probably

Depending on what he's asking for it, it might be a good deal, assuming you are ready to do some work to get it running.

Hey, Bob. Weird seeing you here. :-) Yeah, I'm ready for another project. RAMVA will get along fine without me. As soon as I said I was selling my baja, I started getting some less-than-polite feedback from several people on the group. GreggH was the last straw for me. I think that I'll wind up fitting into this group better in the long run, anyway. A couple of guys out here on RAMJW (I think) seem to think that I'm going to be the "poser" type. :-) I look forward to making it clear to them that that will *not* be the case. Tell the RAMVA regulars I'll miss them. You're not in my area (NC) by any chance are you, Bob?

Brace yourself, Travis. There are some "less than polite" folks here, too. :( You might get some "poser" comments or even some personal attacks or some comments about how crappy your jeep is and how their jeep is so much better, etc., but don't sweat it. Soon you will learn which posters to filter out and which ones are knowledgeable and helpful. The majority of the folks here are "Real" jeepers and are happy to help out a fellow jeeper, no matter what model he drives or how old he is. :) Overall, I think you'll like it here. :) Welcome.

Thanks, Jim. Usually when someone gets rude with me I just get rude right back, but if it gets ridiculous then I just killfile them. Since I was selling my VW anyway and knew I wouldn't be much of a contributor to that group since I'd be concentrating more on the Jeep stuff, I figured I'd leave on a halfway decent note rather than arguing back and forth a few weeks and showing how rude I could be before leaving. Thanks for the welcome. :-)

nope, i am not in your area, unfortunately. you could say i am in the ohio, indiana, kentucky tri-state area. i haven't found any good hills to climb yet, but i am looking!

i can imagine the feedback you got from RAMVA. i haven't looked at ramva in over a year. i think people take the whole 'car' thing too seriously. i know i have! life is too short for that crap. (bob zee is a third-person made-up character that i created to 'liven up' the comp.cad.solidworks newsgroup - they all love him. that didn't go over well in ramva).

you? a poser? AHAHAHAHA!!! that is funny. a note to everyone: Travis (Shaggy) is HARDCORE. 8~)>

good luck on your search for the perfect jeep. i just told the wife that i want a rubicon of my own. the one we just bought is her's. i had no idea that i would like it so much.
