Overheating 2k TJ, some repair questions...

As some of you recall, I replaced the radiator a couple of weeks back. Thanks to those who helped with info on that. Everything went fine. This morning, however, everything went wrong. Apparently the back freeze plug by the head has rotted out or something and needs to be replaced. Water runs out of the Jeep as fast as I can pour it in. Pardon me if I speak wrong on anything related to the actual mechanics of an engine. This information was provided to me by others. Anyway...

I was wondering if it is possible to replace the that freeze plug in a 2000 Jeep Wrangler (6 cylinder, 5spd) without having to remove the head. The place where I dropped it off said that it would be reasonably priced if they are able to replace it without removing the head but much more expensive if the head has to be removed.

I have a feeling that they are just going to go with whatever is the most costly. Can anyone tell me if there are shortcuts to replacing that freeze plug? Or am I up schnit creek and just pay the money to have it fixed?

Thanks.
