Paint for side bars

Jun 25, 2006 12 Replies

Have a Jeep Wrangler with the nurf bars starting to rust. They are originally painted with a black powder coat. If I repaint them, what would be the best type of paint to use? I was thinking of using an epoxy primer with acrylic enamel. Any opinions? Also is there any way of removing the plastic slip pad with out destroying it? They are Westin bars. Thanks for any advice.

I use a semi flat black spray can on mine. When I put new scratches in it, I just touch it up and done. I have those bars also.

Thing is.... the guy who did..... he was resistant to using solvents to remove it and... well.... then there were other problems...

He seemed to be a rough and ready sort of guy.

Especially as his wife wanted him to keep it coated for some reason or other....the report got very vague at that point.....

Too bad he wasn't in marketing, he could have become a zillionaire with the Permanent Condom.

Well.... I understand he did have to renew the coating every so often. Depending on the finish required it could be brushed, sprayed, or rolled.

It's prepping the surface with sandpaper that is the somewhat difficult part.
