Any time Earle :-)
I would like to point out though that not all > educated people are "pompous-ass > wanne-be sheep suckers."
Very true Earle. I didn't mean to come across that way. I should have put "some" or "a few" in there somewhere.

Hi ya TJ and jb. I've been fine...and my Jeep is running great! I've been kicking back lurking.....shaking my head at all of the b.s. posts. This place has really gone s*it lately. Im working close to home running a 10N dozer for ECCO.

have me working 6 10's. This doesnt leave much time for Jeepin' onthe weekends. The great part is that running a 10N is kinda likeJeepin'. I get paid to hang off of the side of a mountain. We aredigging out a huge tank site totaing 180,000 cubic yards of shot rockand dirt being pushed by 5 dozers, 2 loaders and a excavator...I'll bethere for another 3-4 months. Just getting there is 1/2 the fun. Justshow a 1/2 hr. early and I get-ta-Jeep. It takes me about 1 hr. to gethome...the jobsite is 5 miles from the house. I do manage to get minein....almost every day;-) RollOver Pete... Check me out at:

Hello Pete, good to read you're still around and still Jeeping. You've noticed the same crapola here too, it's too bad. Let's go Jeeping when you get off that 6/10 schedule!

I've been at a close distance to Cats since I was a kid going to the Power Parades. Tell me, is handling a D-10 as fun as it looks/sounds? Sometimes I think I'd like to give up working inside, and push earth instead of paper.

It's more fun. There was one day clearing the orchard when the guy on the D9 dislodged an almost perfectly round eight foot diameter ball of rock, dirt, and tree roots, which started rolling downhill towards the guy on the John Deere 350 crawler loader. JD 350s are powerful, but they don't move very fast compared to an eight foot ball of rock, dirt, and tree roots. Near miss though. We all got down and just looked at that ball for a long time...

Cool toys!!! Sounds like a great job for you, long hours, but I assume the pay is decent.
6-10's doesnt leave you time for much at all, much less jeeping. glad to hear your rig is doing well. yea, this place has been interesting, but I look at it this way...I read
50% of it for the humor. Nuke at least 30%, and hope there is some good info in the rest. lol.

in all fairness though, the harley group really isnt comparable to any other groups ive seen. its the long timers that are _trying_ to get the "asshole" moniker over there as if its "good" to be a jerk. i think one of the things that makes jeeping so great is the friendly jeepers. i think the last thing we need is the majority of the active posters purposefully trying to be the biggest asshole in hopes that the asshole god will bestow the moniker on them.
i also disagree with trying to form a "governing" FAQ. the whole idea behind usenet is that it is self-policing. if people want moderation, i think they should visit moderated boards. trying to moderate an unmoderated group is ultimately pointless because until certain lines are crossed there is no way to police the group anyway.

I think a group FAQ is a great idea. Not for the purpose of governing behavior, but introducing people to what the group is about (Jeeps & jeeping, obviously), and answering some of the more basic crap (how many times will someone here explain the difference between a TJ & ZJ). Aren't/wasn't there a good FAQ somewhere on the web already? I'm sure we don't have to reinvent any wheels. (was that a pun?)

clear enough! since you used the harley group in your example and that the harley group uses the faq as a governing guideline, i thought thats what you were suggesting.
lol.....in all fairness that feature was only turned on at the request of the members. :-)
agreed!
_all_ jeepers. thats the benefit (and down side) of usenet.
i dont think it will ever be what it was even 3 years ago. usenet as a whole is changing. most people still dont know it even exists and more are learning about it every day. with all the "good" people finding their way into usenet, there are at least 2 "bad" people. i think this is why participation is increasing in moderated forums and message boards. even my small message board with only a handful of members is serving over 700 pages per day.
anyway, i agree pretty much with everything youve said. keep going like we're going and ignore the trolls as they happen through.

That's exactly the type of thing an FAQ could be used for. Questions like: Whats the back spacing on TJ rims What size tires fit on stock XYZ How much lift do I need for a XX inch tire etc etc
When someone asks one of those questions, give them the link to the FAQ.
Actually I'm surprised more people don't use Google to search for the info. I usually have good luck with that search engine.
There was an FAQ set up for RAMJ&W at one time. It was maintained by someone of the name "Wild Bill". I've since lost the bookmark though.
