There used to be some wheeling opportunities in North Jersey in the Skyland State Park area. Back in '98 some local morons tore up some hiking trails in there and forced the park authority to gate the place. However, there's a fun and popular pipeline run that's accessed across RT 17 from the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah that allows you to get into the area from the back side. Lots of rocks and a fun climb up to a spot where the gas pipelines across at the control tower. At that point you can turn north onto the fire trails that cross the Ramapo mountains above Skylands.
