Re: no power

You are lugging the engine with way too low of rpm for power.

Hit a wind at 120 in 5th gear or overdrive as it is more properly called and if you can actually hold the 120 at 2000 rpm, you have a strong engine.

4th gear is actually top gear with the 1:1 ratio.

When I run at 110-115 kph, I am turning about 2300 rpm in 4th gear. If I drop to 5th, I go down to 1700 or so.

If I baby it and use 5th as much as possible, I don't get 15 US mpg. If I stay in 4th on the highway and forget 5th exists, I get a sweet 19 US mpg, or 23 IMP mpg or 11 L/100 km.

I can also wrap the spedo to the pin in 4th. My spedo shows 85 mph at the top and is calibrated right on via many GPS checks.

You can go "120 kms" in a YJ and you are complaining? LOL

Do you notice the engine sputtering?

Crap man, he is in Canada.

If you can't drive at least 110-120 kph, then you are a serious road hazard on any of our high speed highways and need to stick to side roads to get where you are going.

They are now giving tickets if you are holding up traffic, no matter the speed you are going.

We were running at 120 in the slow lane a month ago and someone was flying along in the fast lane with a bunch of cars held up behind him.

A cop came along and hit his lights, everyone moved over except the brain dead one in the lead. The cops had to hit the big horns to wake him up and force him over to the middle lane. Then they did the same thing again and forced him into the slow lane and just paced him for a while at 120.

Dude was lucky he didn't get a couple tickets. Likely got the crap shaken out of him though. He did stay in the slow lane long after the cop took off. LOL!

I believe there are several states in the USofA that have similar laws. Unfortunately the gendarmes poorly enforce them and mounting a recoilless rifle to perform "citizen enforcement" is against the law.

I will bet that he did not either have California plates nor was driving a Volvo.

I was joking... he wrote 120kms... I read it as Kilometers per SECOND... That's FAST! Is kms short for KPH? I'm american... I can't handle there meter crap LOL

LOL!

I don't know just 'what' kms is except maybe plural for km?

Like I sometimes stick an 's' after rpm when it isn't needed.

I've got a YJ-91 with the 6 cyl engine (fuelinjected) and it goes easy up to over 100 mph (160km/h). But it's not build for highspeeds so i seldom drive more than 60-70 mph. Don't know why your won't go faster than it does. Maybe you only have the 4 cyl engine ?

I would do several things.....

1) change out the cap and rotor for larger one like 84 Ford F150 6cyl and upgrade to an MSD coil. 2) Nutter By-Pass is a MUST. 3) Rebuild the carb and replace every inch of vac line!!! 5)Check or replace the EGR valve 6)If its the orginal cat...replace it 7) Last....timming is everything lol. Not enough advance and your top end suffers. Then again....too much and BOOM.

Good luck Brian
