Replacing back light in overhead console ('05 Liberty)

The back lighting on some of the controls has gone dark. I find one screw near the windshield. This nowhere near releases the housing. I really don't want to rip anything loose. Any tips? (pinging Mike S).

Umm... Ed... No warranty left? That rig should have had the 7/75 on it. I am not trying to be a smart alek here, but have you checked the owner's manual?

It may also be a fuse... check your destructions for your panel lights and see if you may have blown one.

The '05 Liberty has 3yrs/36k miles "bumper to bumper" and 7/70k on a limited drive train warranty ($100 deductible). If that vehicle has less than 36k miles I would certainly take it to the dealer. My '04 Wrangler has over 36k miles and I just got a new drive shaft and U joints for $100. Too bad the '07s are just 3/36 only. :-(

Hi Kate,

It had 9 miles on it when we got in February '05. It now has 49K on it. Warranty was up 13k ago. Wasn't any power train warranty beyond that (was on the '05 RAM though). I doubt it's a fuse as only the two left buttons aren't lit. A friend who works for a jeep dealer gave me the scoop on how to get the housing loose. I saw an '07 Wrangler Sahara the other day I'd like to have. But I am sick of making payments. Gonna pay the truck and the Jeep off and be happy for a while! :) Thanks to you and everybody for the replies.

Hi Ed! Glad to hear you got some useful information from a friend. Hope it works out for you... BUT I say... since you'll be making payments for awhile anyway, what the hell, trade it in on the Sahara. I hear on the radio they're offering 0% financing right now. That's how I got mine. Every penny goes straight toward the balance. Only 3.5 years to go! I can't even begin to tell you how much more I like the Wrangler than the Libby...

Hi Kate!

It's tempting, but the Libby belongs to the wife. She ain't giving it up. And I really like the truck.

:)

Ed

BTW the light wasn't burnt out. It was loose. :)

Glad to hear she likes it. I hated mine. It was ok, for an SUV, but just not for me. I took a terrible hit when I traded it in 6 months later with all fo the mods I had done to it... and I do mean a LOT of add ons.

Me, I'll keep ol Ajax for a long long time. He suits me just fine and I can go completely topless anywhere I need to go.

My TJ is so much more comfortable to ride in than the Libby was... Now, visualizing you with a case of sleepy butt.. that's funny!
