Test Drive ?'s: 95 Cherokee Laredos

I've driven a couple of these with the all wheel drive and V8 engines. They seem to be problematic when shifting into 4x low at a dead stop either in park or neutral; e.g. sticking and grinding. Is this normal or is there a technique to it? TIA. TomC
