TJ front end shimmy

The center of the sector is a tighter tolerance fit than off-center in the box? That's how most RB steering boxes are designed for this very reason. You really only need it to be a "close fit" in the centered (straight ahead) position as the "return to center" forces will take up any slop in the off-centered position when turning.

That is just the preload on that box Bill.

You 'really' don't want that tighter than spec or you are right, the box will burn out.

The adjustment on that is so twitchy just having a pitman arm on will screw it up. I watched a pro do the final tune on one I helped with and man it is soo precise 'or else'.

The main adjuster is the end plug on the column end. If this is even slightly off, the steering wheel will float side to side. It controls the end play.

I was given odd parts (adjuster plug) to fit in the box I was helping with and I couldn't get it to adjust (best I could do was 5" of free steering wheel play) so we took it to the shop that gave my friend the odd parts.

The pro in the steering shop got it, but it was a real bugger even with the special tools. 3 times the wrench went flying across the shop while he was trying to adjust the stub shaft end play adjuster plug. He figured the box got bent some time in the past.
