zj..more problems

yep. more. hehe.

96 grand cherokee, all time 4 wheel, 5.2 v8 ok first one. failed emissions test. running too rich. since i recently replaced the O2 sensor, i am understanding that a failing sensor will make the computer open up to full rich on the fuel mixture. and it would also account for my crap fuel milage i have been getting. do i replace sensor again and be more careful this time? and ideas?

second one. (this is not a constant thing, just occasional occurance) really odd shifting behavior. at odd times, it seems as first gear just does not exist. runs as if you are starting out in second gear while slipping the clutch way too much. just no 'guts' to the takeoff when this occurs. stomping on the gas does not make the jeep downshift to a lower gear, and turning off the overdrive does nothing either. this can occur while driving in stop and go traffic mostly. sometimes, if i stop the jeep, turn it off for a bit, (to run into a store, for example) and start again, the problem is gone. there is no noise associated with the problem, no sudden unexplained jerks or shifts. i am assuming at this point a computer control problem, or maybe faulty vacuum line or? im stuck on this one.

now, both problem started roughly the same time, so is it possible they are somehow related? i dont see how, but stranger things have happened. thanks for any help Tim in colorado
