Question about rear heat and air 2002 Sedona

We just recently purchased a used 2002 Kia Sedona. It has the rear heat and air (I think thats standard) My question is can heat come from the vents in the rear ceiling of the van? I can get cool air thats controled by the rear control knob. I can get heat from the heat from the rear heater vent in the floor. Are the ceiling vents not for heat, just everything else?

Not sure if it's like my 05 but if so look for a dash switch that has RR HTR on it, push this in to get the rear heater to kick on and blow hot air. I usually just leave mine in for the winter....

Thats not what I am asking. I can get heat out of the rear lower heater, but does it come out the vents in the ceiling (hot air)?

no. hot air rises. why heat the roof? comes out the lower ones only

I kind of thought the same thing about the vents, but buying it used, I just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with it. When we first took delivery of the van, the temperature control knob and the vent selector switch(defrost, heat, vent) didn't work either. It always blew out the vent, and it was always hot, no matter the setting. That has since been fixed and just was making sure nothing else was wrong with the system before my 60 days was up to get it fixed for free.

I need to ask about the "fixed for free" comment. So the warranty 5yr 100k didn't transfer to you. How many miles on it?

Thanks, TP

As for me, I got my 2002 Sedona a month ago. It had around 55,000 miles on it. They said after the first owner, the warranty goes down to 60K miles....the 100K is only for first owners.

Um, yes. If you have the dial turned to "hot" and the rear air on, then hot air comes out of the rear top vents.

If, OTOH, you have the dial set to "cold" and the rear air on, then cold air comes out of the top vents. (I had the air conditioning on yesterday and can verify this.)

In addition, you have a rear heater unit, which blows hot air out of a lower vent, which has nothing to do with the front heating unit.

No idea why they have this, I think I used it once or twice in the past four years.

This contradicts what I have heard. So you can get hot air to come out of the top vents? This is a 2002 you are talking about?

Thanks.

I believe so.

I'll do some checking next time I have an opportunity to turn the heat on.

In my '02 Sedona, the rear heat blows only from the floor. I think this is how it is supposed to be. But, with all the piddly crap breaking in mine, it's sometimes tough to tell.

Concerning the aforementioned broken switch. If it breaks again, you can fix it. I posted a step-by-step here:

Same here, except I got mine at 97K miles. Stupid policy. A 100K mile warranty should be a 100K mile warranty regardless if you're the first owner or the fifth.
