"biodiesel" is a word that is used from everything from a mix of normal diesel and 5% veg-based diesel, through BS-approved full-on "biodiesel", through to chip fat. Probably best to define what you are wanting to put into it with a bit more precision, it's a confusing field and the jargon doesn't help sadly!

No, the 200 will run on almost anything. TonyB

What is the point. I passed a garage outside Bridgewater selling "Biodiesel" at the same price as Derv - 97.9p

Well the point is in your local garages case

a) saving the world b) making a humoungous profit for a change c) driver / owner feeling that they are doing their bit.

:-)

Not everything is about saving / making money.

Interestingly our local at the pump is 84p p l so there is a money saving to be had there.

although a) very likely doesn't apply. "biodiesel" is a term that needs considerable tightening of the definition, and the majority that's around readily available is in fact bio-blend, which can be as much as 95% fossil.

Agree with both of those.

And b) is very confusing because of the lack of a real definition of wha= t is biodiesel, what is a blend, and what is dino.

Current duty rates: ULSD (these days the common pump diesel) 48.35p/l Sulphur diesel 54.68p/l biodiesel 28.35p/l blends 54.68p/l

So in theory 100% bio attracts 20p/l less duty but note that a bio blend= has the same duty as sulphur diesel not ULSD...

Also note the 6p/l rise in duty between now and 1 April 2009. Looks like= the =A31/l price point at the supermarkets will be with us by the end of= the year unless crude prices drop.

Ok fill your jerry cans now then. It's the £ threshold that makes the public knee jerk.

It's a phsycological point for sure but prices have been creeping up sin= ce the begining of the year and are now pretty much the same as they where =

August 2006 and Sept 2005. I don't hear much squealing about high fuel prices in the media.

With diesel at 97p/l and a 2p/l duty hike due in October =A31/l plus is = well on the cards unless crude gets down to $50/55 barrel again, it's current= ly at $70/barrel.

that's probably due to certain warmongering nations trying to annexe about

50% or more of the proven reserves.

Mentioning no bushes...
