200tdi cant quit smoking HELP!

That sounds like unburnt diesel - so it could conceivably be low compression, but more likely is a dodgy injector - certaily a good place to start looking.

as the smoke stops when things warm up, I'd not be inclined to suspect it. Just another thought, are the injector pipes all tight?

Hello all I need some help my disco literally blew its engine last year the usual head gasket fault leading to hydraulic lock . So a total rebuilt was neccecary as it had blown the rings and pistons and piston push rods whilst rebuilding a few other things became obvious ,turbo ceased , injectors burnt out, basically I rebuilt or replaced everything except the injection pump and cam shaft.(yes now I know I should have fitted a performance cam)

Now 12,000miles later she has started to run on three cylinders at start up and give off white or light grey smoke until turbo cuts in (hot or cold). had the timing clocked up by a diesel injection specialist at rebuild so I doubt its off.

Have fitted all new filters.

So I am thinking that its either the cam or the injection pump and I really don't want to be messing with the timing on my own again!!! and I don't have time.

any thoughts or can anyone recommend a specialist in Hertfordshire(st lbans)

You shouldnt rule out the injectors even if they are brand new. I replaced the injectors on my engine, and about 200miles later one of them went wrong (the night before billings grrr!). From how badly it was running i thought that my timingbelt had slipped, or something else serious. I lost all power and got loads and loads of smoke.

Later, I also had my injection pump reconditioned and set-up. I had constant smoke while driving, and this pretty much cleared it up. Have a search in the yellow pages for your local diesel specialist. It cost me about £80 i think.
