IIRC There's no problem changing the gear on the end of the dizzy shaft, it's just a matter of removing the pin through the shaft but I can't remember if it's a roll pin or a plain pin.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I seem to remember there being some sort of length or shaft diameter issue? It was a long time ago that I last had sight of an early cover/pump though, so it may be my mind playing tricks and I'm actually thinking of something completely different........ Badger.
