96 Discovery 300tdi starting problem

Some of you may remember my posting a couple of weeks ago about my first beakdown in 3.5 years.

Isolated the problem due to the stop solenoid not activating and replaced this last Thursday, problem solved....?? like hell

The intermittent problem were the engine will turn over but not fire still persists, so I am back to taking the gubbins out the stop solenoid and stalling the engine when I want it to stop.

Seems to point to a problem with the electric supply to the stop solenoid but every time it won't start I am never dressed apporiately to grub about under the bonnet and hook a test light up and check the supply.

Assuming I get to the point where I can pinpoint that an electric supply is not getting to the stop solenoid this to me points to an intermittent problem with the immobiliser (Or does the supply come thru' a relay too which could be faulty ???)

Assuming the immobilser is faulty has anybody replaced one of these??? I understand they are a prat to get at by virtue of what they are and how do you procede in respect of setting up with your remote contol??

Could be a co-incidence but my local LR dealer has suggested thet the fact that the lock button on the remote control only works intermittently could be linked,

Any comments re this appreciated.

Oh and finally does any body have any idea how much an immobilser unit costs in the UK, if too much I just plan to bypass the supply to the stop solenoid with an ignition and relay contolled +ve supply and lock the car with the key (yes I know this means the internal alarm sensors don't work when you do this)

Any help comments appreciated.

All else fails change the Fuse boxs. Intermittent connections here will cause loads of wierd faults

To isolate the problem you could run a separate supply from the battery terminal to the stop solenoid via a switch. If this cures the problem you know you have a problem in the feed circuit. Fergus
