96 Discovery ES cruise control

Just brought a 96 es discovery with cruise control. After looking under the bonnet as the cruise was not working i traced the pipes from a unit next to the bulkhead into a T connector and then the pipe goes around the engine bay to just behind the headlight. then nothing ??? is there a part missing there as there seems to be an empty space

Hmm. I take it you have turned the system on? (switch on centre dash panel)?

Otherwise I dunno.

Typical problems are vacuum pipe split or come adrift, or electrical power feed failure.

Of course, it's neither on mine, so it remains non-working!

The cruise system consists of a switch on the brake pedal, a suction pump under where the jack is stored and a servo unit. The electronics operates the vac pump which operates the servo which operates the throttle pedal, the switch on the brake pedal breaks the vacuum and cuts out the electronis signal. the two things to check are that the brake switch is in place and that there are no splits in the vac pipes.

Hope this helps

found the pump and a pipe disconnected off it due to splitting. chopped off

1 inch and put back on and works fine.

whats the RES button mean ? Resume or Reset ? also is there supposed to be a warning light on the dash when in cruise mode ?

RES is resume. It also cancels cruise control operation if your driving along and flip it - a bit like touching the brake or clutch pedals.

There's no dash light to show cc is on, but there is an amber light in the main on/off switch.
