AFL Unnoficial?

I'm up for it almost anytime ... but no-one seems to have the same days free.

I'd be up for a days laning in the Peaks but would rather do a week-day and take the day off work. Less family ties and less bobble hats to get in the way!!

The early unofficials were weekends away, typically around bank holidays to give that extra day or around the school half terms. This has a number of advantages over one day events. It means that more are likely to attend as more can justify the travel for a weekend rather than 4 hours driving before they get there for a day. It also allows a greater choice of stuff to do. I've also found some of the best meets have purely been sat around rag chewing at a brazier or bbq and not necessarily events requiring any driving at all.

I've avoided pushing any unofficials this year myself but if anyone does pull one together that happens to be when I'm off or can realistically get time off then we will be there. Unfortunately my job isn't really one where I can drop it on the gaffers toes last minute as I need someone to hold the fort while I'm away and at the minute theres a shortage of suitably skilled willing victims.

Also when someone actually gets around to it check out the camp sites policy / view / approach on groups and open camp fires. Many many good sites get eliminated purely due to not accepting groups. Thats not to say there aren't some other cracking ones out there where people can unofficially bump in to each other.

I've got a few days due, to be taken before April, so we could have the start of a day or two out ... just need a couple of weeks notice ... ;)

Not forgetting that kids also enjoy the camping/sitting-around-chewing-the-fat as much as the off-roading. Gives them much more of a memorable trip than just sitting on a motorway for endless hours.

KORC was great. The camp site was a bit like a venture in to Darwins laboratory. :o) Pickled muppets all over the place.

I'm OK almost anytime midweek, with a couple weeks, notice but the following weekends are already booked ...

March 8th, March 15th, March 29th, April 13th, May 3rd, May 10th, May

All these are either Archery tournaments, caravan weekend/rallies away, Driffield show, and other stuff ...

OK. We're doing Driffield, Eastnor and Dunsfold. Everything else in the hands of the company's gods.
