With Ye Olde Range Rover.
Been collecting bits to make the Rangey a bit more presentable and easy to live with, luckily two of my mates have been breaking Classics and I've managed to get lots of handy bits off them for sensible money. Tonight I decided to fit them.
Job one was to replace the truly knackered top tailgate with the spanking new ally one I purchased for the princely sum of £50. Easy enough job, but aren't they a bugger to get the locks working properly on? Still, I've managed to get it to shut perfectly at last. No more pushing down on each corner, o/s first then n/s seems to have been the rule with every Classic I've had. Replaced the rear wiper arm while I was at it. Makes a big difference not having to get out and assist the rear wiper back to its park position when it spins helplessly on the spline.
Job two was replacing the drivers window motor. What an utter pain to do. Decided to replace the whole regulator and motor as one. That grease they use on wiper mechanisms, 'orrible innit? Worth a tenner and an hours work to have a working window again though.
Job three was finally getting rid of the bloody K&N filter someone had fitted and replacing it with the original filter setup. Ended up having to cut the trumpet off the filter housing and route some rubber hose to a fresh air point on the front panel. The muppet who half fitted the LPG to it must have been responsible for fitting the vaporiser where the original air filter trumpet sat. Makes it a bit more awkward to change the filter element, as I have to remove the whole housing, change element, re-fit housing but it was easier than moving the vaporiser.
Rangie is now quieter, less rattly, smoother feeling, and more responsive. A good day.
