You could do worse than check these people out. I've not bought from them, not yet but I will be soon. They have lots of very nice kit with Land Rovers ranging from rusty to almost immaculate.

All LRs are a goodbye - to lots of money on spares and lots of time fixing things.

You'll find other companies which sell ex-MOD advertising in the rags.

But with Witham being the sole disposal company for ex-mod kit, surely they must all be buying from Witham?

Or am I completely wrong in thinking this?

yes, if:

  • you go there in person to look at 'em
  • you know what you're looking at
  • you take your time and don't buy a dud'un.

ex-MOD stuff can be excellent, or it can be shagged. the trick is in telling the one from the other...

erm...

I had a look round lot 35 from the last tender and it was in very good condition. It was a winterised 110 hard top, heated front screen, webasto, radiators in the back, rear wiper, wind up windows and all insulated, mileage about 40,000.

The body work was very straight and the whole thing appeared to be in very good nick. I didn't drive it though as I was just trying to get an idea of what condition you could expect from the top and bottom prices.

It went for 3850UKP and I'd have easily paid that for it. When I was looking around the sales man there reckoned if someone put in a bid for

4200UKP they would have got it so he wasn't far wrong.

You don't have to buy in the tender though, AFAIK you can buy at any time.

yeah. Go there if you can, fascinating stuff to look at... tank transporters, sod-off excavators, Hagglunds...

and you can buy stuff from 'em at any time. I imagine that sometimes you can get 'em cheaper by the tendering thing, rather than paying their asking price. But it'd be essential to look at the things first anyway.

If you do pay them a visit leave anyone under 16 at home, they won't let them wander round the yard, even accompanied. I couldn't spend as much time as I wanted there as I had to leave my 5 year old son in the car on his own, he was in sight but it wasn't much fun for him. Luckily he took a handheld computer game with him.
