Bonet Catch adjustment on a 90 - How????

Ok, heres a really simple thing thats got me beat!

The bonet catch on my 90 will shut OK if i drop it from about 6 - 8 inches, problem is getting the bloody thing open again!

I have removed the sliding catch mechanism, cleaned and re greased, cable pull mechanism seems to work fine.

The problem appears to be when the bonet comes down the locating pin is about 3 - 4mm too far forward and there appears to be no adjustment in this direction for the catch. Screwing the bonet pin in (shortening it) doesnt seem to help either.

Are the locating pins cast steel ? I have hit it a few times to bend it backwards but am reluctant to hit too hard incase it shears off! the alternative is to slot the catch / body to move the whole thing forward.

Anything I'm missing / expert tips to make it fit!

Thanks Jon

Not on a Defender, but the last time I had this sort of job to do, there were slotted holes for the hinge bolts to get the adjusment.

have you got the correct black plastic bits in the hinges?

I think you'll find it's possible to move the whole rail that the bonnet catch sits on. held by 2 bolts either side.

Thanks.

There are plastic bushes / collars in the hinges - no real play here to speak of.

I know the 4 bolts you refer to but must admit I didnt take them out at the weekend to try to move the whole panel forward. Will have a play this week to see if i can move it forward.

Thanks. Jon
