Books on off-road driving and recovery

All,

Any suggestion on a good book on off-road driving, recovery, preparation, expedition, etc.

Cheers,

Fred

I have and would recommend:

vehicle dependant expedition guide by Tom Sheppard

off-roader driving by Tom Sheppard

the off road and 4 wheel drive book by Jack Jackson

working in the wild, a manual for africa by Land Rover part number SMR684MI

off-road recovery tecniques by Nick Cole is also a good little book but it's content is, in my opinion, covered by the above books.

Regards. Mark.

Anything at all by Tom is worth its weight in Gold.

A search of the RGS website will also result in some informative and free documents. Tom led the Joint Services West East Sahara Expedition in 1975. Info here:

As a club, we're celebrating this expedition at Marque Day and will have members of the original team there.

browsing LRO in the bath last night (as one does) someone has one of the 101's from that for sale, one of them that had the powered trailer. if you like your land rover history that'd be a one to have, but I'd like the powered trailer with it. would solve all my worries about movinf a washing machine in a disco (as in another thread).

Expensive though.

I did consider these two.

I have a 1989 edition of that. Did they produce a more recent one? Interestingly enough (as I mentionned in an earlier thread), this book mentions as the first item to take with you the workshop manual of your car. Mine is a defender TD5 and when I asked LR for the workshop manual, they said they don't sell it (not since the TD5)...

Thanks a lot for these suggestions.

Fred

I bought mine new last year it says "New revised enlarged edition" on the front cover, inside it mentiones copyright dates 1989 and 2003 so I suspect it's a 2003 edition.

Regards. Mark.
