Manuals at work, is there a light to confirm low range? The lever engages after a bit of jiggling, but no light comes on?
It doesn't seem to be in low range, but I could be wrong as it's an auto. If the lever engages, is it in low range?

Isnt it fairly obvious if it is in low range? what happens when you put your foot down. in low range you should get much revving and not move very fast!
It's an auto & it does that anyway! I can't take it out onto the road. I had a beer or two this evening. Off laning tomorrow & forgot about it ffs!
Try reversing, you should easily be able to tell the difference, especially if you keep the revs at the same level both times, even with the VC messing about.
Trust me, you can still tell the difference! There is no low range warning that I am aware of.
Am I missing something here? All you have to do is drive in high ratio at (say) 30 mph on the flat and note the engine revs, then do the same in low ratio and compare the revs. QED

Odd really. I'll give it a go in the morning.
Yeah, Nige has had a beer!

Yes, he's sloshed, to a degree. In reverse, he should spot it very quickly though.
There is no light for low range. Even without taking it on the road in low 1st and tickover you'll barely move but in high 1st it's a walking pace. At least in manual, will the "anti creep" of an auto stop this very useful feature.
There is an undocumented light for the diff lock if your transfer box has that fitted (but not normally available on the Hi/Lo selector). If you do engage the diff lock by crawling underneath with a 10mm spanner it also inhibits some of the "clever" electronics like traction control but only when you switch the engine off/on.
No, an auto will trickle along, much as you've said - walking pace in high, snail's pace in low.

If it doesn't go over about 35 flat out, it's low range.
It was !!!
