Engine bungs!

RR '88 3.5 efi

Dont know real name for them, metal 'cup' like thingy approx 1&1/2" across, they fit into the engine casting. Are they standard sizes or unique to Land Rover? One of mine is leaking, typically awkward place under the engine mounting!

Any pointers on the best way to remove/replace it without causing damage to the engine block. I assume they are just 'forced' back into place...

Thanks Dave

Dave,

They're known as 'freeze plugs', 'cup plugs', and probably a few other names as well.

You can get them out by tapping one side into the block, and then grabbing the other side with a pliers, or you can drill a hole and use a self-tapping screw to get something to grip onto.

Replacements shouldn't be too expensive.
