Extra fuel filter.

Excuse this post from a non Land Rover owner but I'm hoping for some help on an SD1 EFI with the same engine and injection as some will have. I've tried other groups but not got the answer I need.

I've got a problem on the SD1 with the one way valve in the petrol pump failing. It's a fuel injected car so has a high pressure pump mounted underneath and close to the tank. There is a filter after the pump and a gauze one inside the tank which I'm told often fails by falling off, and this has indeed happened to mine. It could be coincidence that the pump valve has failed but I'd like to ensure it doesn't happen again when I replace the pump - I have a new one waiting to go on.

So what I need is a 1/2" fitting in line filter to go in the rubber hose between the tank and pump - there's plenty of room for near any size and shape within the transmission tunnel behind the pump.

I can get one from a specialist racing shop no problem - apart from the cost of anything up to 100 quid, whereas the normal disposable inline 3/8" type for the high pressure side only cost a few pounds. So can anyone think of a suitable lower cost one with 1/2" inlet and outlet? It doesn't have to be a fine particle filter - the original only being a gauze type. And of course suitable for the low pressure of the gravity feed to the pump.

Sorry Dave

My promise of knowledge has obviously not been fulfilled :-(

Dave, might be better to get into the tank and fit either the correct gauze or a better one but seal it on properly so it cannot detach itself again in the same way. I'd suggest some aircraft fuel tank sealant as being suitable for the purpose (email me for details). The only other items I've seen in a

1/2" fitting are, as you say, expensive! Badger.

I'm told on good authority it's as good as impossible due to access.

I could, of course get a new tank - but that's even more expensive and the old one looks fine on the outside. Perhaps I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy one of the expensive filters. Cheapest option.

Heh heh - I've enjoyed reading the posts - but only went back 50.

Sorry to have a go about the congestion charge, but people often forget London has residents too who'd rather it wasn't full of commuter traffic rushing down their streets in exactly the same way as those in a village don't want heavy traffic in that. When there are alternatives.

Have you tried Burlen Fuel Services? I've found them to be excellent in helping to source any fuel bits and bobs. Badger.

Nothing in 1/2", sadly.

seems to cover what you want. I almost died at their pricing as it's about 50% more than I pay for something similar here but it's all I managed to find in the UK on google.

Indeed. I very soon (before posting here) came across plenty of options from Demon Tweeks and Burton Power etc - but thought the 50+ quid a bit excessive. So was trying to find one which was perhaps OEM to another vehicle and would do the job at a 'normal' price rather than a racing accessory type one.
