Flywheel On P38a 1995 4.6

There is what appears as an inspection hole bottom right of the flywheel housing unit (looking from the front). Flywheel rotation can be observed when turning engine over. My question is that does this inspection hole have something like a rubber bung to protect from stones as they could easily fly up from road tyres and caues untold damage to flywheel teeth and such? You might be looking at the access hole to get to the flex-plate bolts. There should be a big bung in there. From memory it could be a 40-50mm hole (bit under 2 inches?)
