freelander td4 master cylinder

Mar 31, 2007 1 Replies

My td 4 now requires a 3rd clutch master cylinder in as many years. I now strongly think that the slave cylinder may be the root cause of these component failures. Also i have been told that the gearbox would have to be removed for this slave cylinder to be replaced, if that is correct why o why did landrover fit it inside the gearbox.

any thoughts on this ?

Sadly it's true. It's not fair to blame LR though, as such. The pressures on manufacturing costs (from the bean counters and from buyers - would you pay an extra, say, 10% for a new car designed with easy repair in mind if you'll have got rid of it by the time such repairs are needed?) now far outweigh any desire to keep cost of ownership under control.

Plus all the good bits on Td4's like that were were done by BMW anayway ;-)
