Help needed - bleeding heater/coolant

In an attempt to cure the problem with a feeble heater on my V8, I have been advised to bleed the heater pipes in case there is an airlock. I've located the two heater pipes, squeezing them causes the water in the expansion tank to swell so deffo the right ones.

Any tips on how to get rid of the suspected airlock then please? Is it just a simple case of disconnecting one pipe and putting a hose to it and running it through? Assume water will then spill over from the expansion tank? Or should I disconnect both hoses and flush through like that?

Any advice appreciated as I have never done anything like this before and don't want to screw up my cooling system!!

has it got a filler thing on the engine, on one of the heater pipes? spout bit that sticks up above the engine and has one of those screw-in plugs in it?

if so, fill it from there.

When I had this problem on a 110 the garage reversed the flow in the matrix. It solved the problem for a time but eventually the matrix had to be replaced as it was almost fully blocked. The same garage fitted a bleeding nipple in the pipe at its highest point.

Still not very hot though but that is due more to the air leaks in the vehicle which is now 23 years old and 700,000 miles plus.

Took pipes off, blasted through with clean water, re-bled system.

Red hot heater :-)

Cheers for the tips.
