Hey All, The manual came today , I havnt had much time to read it but it seems a good thing to have with plenty of photos and the 'spanner rating' for different difficulty jobs . I looked at a series 2A (K reg) SWB with a canvas back , £800 was the asking price however the chassis seemed very badly rusted to me , the metal 'bumper' at the back was rusted right through in places and what I could see of the box section on both sides at the back was badly corroded . Wouldnt be good buy I thought , even though the body was pretty tidy . Just out of interest how much is a new galvanised chassis for a SWB series
2A ? On the stationary engine front I've been playing about with the magneto trying to get it to work , cleaned the corrosion off the contact points and let it dry out (if it was wet at all) reassembled it , still no spark at the plug . So I thought what the hell I'll take the plug off hold onto the HT lead and turn it over very slowly . Damn did it give me a belt !!! So at least I know it works even if the output isnt strong enough to make the plug spark (buying a new plug tomorrow just to check) should have the engine fired up by the end of next week . Then I can start stripping the paint and polishing ! Cheers , Max

Not expensive to fix, but time consuming if you do it yourself.If you pay to have it done it would be £500ish.
I'm in Leicester, I've got a good condition 2a for sale.It hasnt got a MOT at the mo, but that will be fixed in the next couple of weeks - just needs new rear pads and wiper blades. I've got it at £800 as it stands now, or £1200 tidied up with 12 mth MOT. Once it's complete, it'll be on ebay if there is no interest here.
£500 up to £1000 new from different manufacturers.Secondhand good condition chassis can be had from £100.

It is a 1969 2A 'G' reg SWB.Headlamps in wings, hardtop. Dead reliable 2.25 petrol.Kenlowe fan fitted, though the automatic thermostat may not be working at the mo - the fan was constantly on last time I took it out,this may be the temp. probe which are £28 to replace. It failed the last MOT on the front spring hangars corroded, 1 rear brake not working, and wiper blade split. The front spring hangers have been replaced, I have bought the rear pads but have not fitted them yet.(it failed because the rear diff oil seal had gone, throwing oil over the brake backplate,contaminating the shoes). I started a re-wire last year, but have never got round to completely finishing it.Everything worked for the MOT, and the wiring is certainly easier and cleaner than original now, but it does need finishing off to make to really good.It has an alternator. All seats are pretty new, 2 cloth fronts, 1 centre vinyl(all with belts)
1 flip up rear seat on one side, 1 bench seat on the other side in the back.Both pretty new.Carpet in the front, some headlining, and more material to finish the headlining.radio/cassette. All tyres and wheels have done less than 400 miles.It has white 8 spokes, with the bonnet mounted spare being the original wheel.All 4 original wheels are included, with tyres with good tread, but they are quite old, so the rubber looks to be perishing. Numerous new and old/usable spares included. Dynamo/reg box.New clutch slave cylinder, 2 new bearings for the front prop shaft - it has slight play, so could do with changing if you want to use 4wd regularly.Spare rad hoses, 3 or 4 tins of paint (LR green,roof cream and silver) most of a gearbox,original steering wheel,and a pile of other bits and pieces that I have forgotten,inc. both Haynes books. The front suspension and steering was (nearly) all replaced 18 months ago, both swivels/seals/kingpins etc, all steering T.R. ends, new leaf springs. The rear springs are usable, but I'd be replacing them eventually if I was keeping it, if only because new springs are so much more comfortable. I've hardly touched the paintwork inside, so that will need doing, though some people like the chipped/bare look! The door pillars passed the MOT fine, but 1 side does look like it needs replacing,though it has been like that for the last 2.5 years that I have had it.The chassis has had a number of patches - both front hangars have been replaced, and it had a new rear 1/4 chassis 2 years ago.It seems to me to be fairly solid everywhere.The passenger side footwell has been patched in the distant past, and again, it will need patching/cleaning up eventually - it just looks a little messy from underneath, but seems structurally sound - it wasnt mentioned in the MOT. I've got loads more to add, but cant think of it at the mo, so if you want to know more, then please email me. Oh yes... so you found the inertia starter bit in the magneto works then? Been there. Hurt too. Don't let the HT lead toutch anything or it may well short to ground and not at the plug! If it looks old and perished, try using some normal wire... just don't get hold of it as the insulation will be of no help at all! Once sparking your almost home and dry, Toby

Nope I cant drive yet , im 18 , so yes if I get a landie in the near future it'll be a project . However with uni in the way this particular project may be put on hold for a few years :( Max

chassis for 2a/3 are around £800 from paddocks ( galvd )
but, funny you should ask. i have a fully galved chassis 12 month old in superb condition in fact id go as far to say as new
but unfortunatly i dont know how much i want for it, just got to underseal it and i think its going on e-bay id like 400 for it, but dont know if it will fetch that, but then again i might turn it into a coffee table, a rather large coffee table.
