Is it a bad thing that i drempt my clutch went?

Strange dream last night - dreampt the clutch went for some reason! Must have been eating cheese...

This has got me thinking. The clutch on my 90 is not stiff, but heavier than i think it should be. My local LR garage drove it a while back and mentioned that it had a heavy clutch when it was last serviced.

He mentioned something about a pivot being dry?? Cant quite

How much do you reckon for a new clutch to be fitted, and is there anyway of getting to this pivot to look at its state?

I can't see what the pivot being dry has to with it - it's dry all the time!

A heavy clutch can be caused by all sorts of things, but is much preferrable to a very, very light one!

It cound be the pivot on the pedal box is siezed, it could be failing master and/or slave cylinders, it could be the pivot is starting to push thouh the arm, it could be the release bearing has started to melt (usually accompnied by a "swishing" noise when the pedal is down), it could be the clutch cover is knackered, etc etc.

Unfortunately there's no really a lot to see without taking it to bits, or replacing the master and or slave cylinder and seeing what happens. Flushing the fliud through may help, and would give you the oprtunity to look for silver mush in the old fluid which would indicate one of the cylinders is dying.

That lot should make tonights dream a lot more fun! More cheese Gromit?

My clutch is pretty heavy, and that has not changed with a new master cylinder (necessary when the leaking got too much) it has always been heavy compared to the average car. You don't have to push it very far to disengage, and it does take up rather quickly and unsubtly, I guess eventually it will need replacing, like everything else and may be close to worn out.
