cost about 10 quid, ISTR - might be a bit more now as the latest sort (sensibly) have 2 pins, not 1, securing the sliding part to the rails.

Very sick bird, and arguably for a home-made one on your own vehicle, there's CE marking or such involved now. I don't know if there's a "own use" exclusion - might be?

Anyway, the hitch in question is the desired Dixon-Bate type, not the ones with two or three positions on the drop plate for the ball which also get (somehow!) called adjustable.

Yes I could certainly do that, I think I even have some suitably sized channel section rusting somewhere, but I already have dozens of unfinished jobs so need the expedient solution to getting my tow vehicle working 8-). Greg

Not everything is covered by the EC rules so not everyone requires a certificated tow bar.

There are of course potential stupid inconsistencies (I haven't checked the detail here) like the station wagon version of a Defender requiring the certificated tow bar but the truck cab does not. The more annoying reverse case being that a non-certificated tow bar taking, for example, a NATO hook is legal on the truck cab but is not on the station wagon 'made' after 1998.

Can you now use a NATO hook on the non-commercial post-1998 LandRover products? Anyone know?

that's the kind I made. in fact, I copied the construction and dimensions of one thet may or may not have been a D-B on one of the discos.

IIRC, there's a cut-off point, might be around R reg, for fitting non-approved tow hitches.

I am actually a qualified fabricator-welder; mind you, I'm not sure if I could find the certificate without about a week's notice!
