Hey, well spotted! BTDT with the Rangie - but a 1951 or 61 Manx Norton would be most acceptable, if Santa is reading this.

It feels as if the knock is coming from right underneath the driver's seat.

After further investigation I have ruled out the clutch. If I engage in

1st or second, let go of the throttle and let the car move along at idle speed and then suddenly apply throttle the knock is there. 3rd gear also does this but less noticeable.

Any ideas what this could be?

Close! I'm (long-term, not this year) after a 1953 Series One that I am going to restore to perfect working order, dent-free, shiny and cherished. Think Dorian Gray.

My 2005 110 has knocked slightly from new on setting off and sometimes on the overrun, I gave up with maindealer and traced it to the rear diff pinion flange needing a tweak.
