My military land rover has an odd button with the word "test" on it, if you press it a red light on the button lights up, but nothing else happens, now other land rovers don't have this light, so i am assuming it is something the Army fitted to it, any ideas what is is? and what it dose?

I seem to remember it was something to do with testing the brakes' servo. I had it on my 2nd (ex-Police car) Series III but not on my first one.
As for how it works ...... erm, help someone.

Right in a nut shell uit tests the bulb. The Bulb also illuminates (or did when new) in the event of loss of brake pressure to the front or to the rear axle lines.
This works as the light is wired to a switch on a shuttle valve.

Factory fit item on Series III's and 101's to my knowledge so far.

1975 onwards IIRC- it's fitted on my 1979 SIII.

I don't think the SIII had dual-circuit brakes until then. 'specially the SWB.
