'99 Legacy Outback Limited - what's the ACS switch for?

About to buy a one of these and while test driving it, I noticed a button on the moon roof control panel that I believe said 'ACS,' but the owner didn't know what it was for.

My GUESS is it automatically closes the sunroof when the key is tirned off or the door is closed or locked or security is engaged or something.

It could be a feature that is broken. Try asking over at

or dig around at

and see if it was ever a feature/option.

I had a moment to google this yesterday, and some BMWs apparently have this switch as well. I didn't have time to chase it down. But, I'm suspicious that it might be related to the transmission shifting pattern or the airbags. Wild guesses, to be sure.

Hey, I had the same problem. Turned out the moon roof was an after market installation (it was used and I have no idea what the manufacturer's name was.) The ASC is an automatic sunroof closing switch. Normally, when this switch isn't depressed ie. not glowing red when car is running, the moon roof should automatically close when the car is turned off. It glows red, I suppose, to remind you that it won't be closing when you shut off. This allows you to park the car with the moon roof open or the vent cracked while the motor is off.

H> Yeah, I saw something like that too. The person who sold me the car
