Overfilling auto box

Can anybody tell me what happens if the automatic gearbox is overfilled with oil ?

Cheers,

Richard

Well, when I had a Carlton, the back of the car went all spotty on long journeys and it would lay smoke in a spectacular fashion when accelerating hard eg when joining a motorway.

Didn't seem to have any long term ill effects and gradually righted itself, presumably as the excess blew out.

There are more serious reasons why I am still very reluctant to allow a Vauxhall dealer do a service.

My 110 is about as un-automatic as they come so I know nothing about overfilling a L/R..

Expensive whine from the gearbox region ??

The oil will become aerated and frothy, one symptom being the excess blowing from the breather, the other more serious is that the frothy oil will not separate the wet-clutch friction plates in the box correctly and wear will occur.

Lucky sods!

I was also informed that in addition to the frothing, there is the possibility of blowing out the internal seals?
