While driving back from shopping today, I noticed the access/crawl ride height light was staying on with the standard ride height light flashing, normally just the standard ride height is on, there was no warning message on the dash, is this a fault or can it be rectified in another way?

I think it depends on how long it was doing this. If there is not enough pressure in the system to raise the car to the standard level, that's exactly what would happen. If my car is low on reserve (lowered to access a couple of times within a short time), I have known it take up to 5 mins to re-pressurise again. With a less old and knackered compressor, I dare say it would take just a couple of minutes.
If yours has been in that state for longer than say, 5 mins, then I think you are possibly looking at a duff compressor, air leak, or similar. I think the system will put the fault lights on if it takes too long to get to pressure, but I'm not sure how long that is...
