the disco book says "On this engine, when the oil filter is removed, there is a danger that the oil pump will drain down too far to self-prime when he fresh oil is added to the sump. The likelihood of this happening during a routine oil changes is remote, but work quickly, and always fill the new filter with fresh oil before fitting."
it also says "Start the engine without racing it, and let it idle. The oil pressure light should go out after a short delay. If the light stays on, this means that the pump has not self-primed - switch off and refer to chapter 2A, section 13"
Though, personally, I'd insert "swear loudly" in there somewhere.
in 2A13 it says the same as the older book about vaseline (petroleum jelly) and says Ordinary grease must not be used as it will not dissolve fully in the engine oil, and may block the hydraulic tappets or pickup strainer.
pack the housing with petroleum jelly, then insert the pump gears, ensuring that the PJ fills every visible cavity. Then put the cover back on.
