They all do it, or so I've been told. I asked the same questions when I bought my 99 TD5, and it even went back to the dealer for a few days - but since I've been asking around and it's perfectly normal, in fact I hardly notice it now.
It's something to do with the ACE recalibrating itself every 12 seconds or so.. You'l only get the clonk when the vehicle is moving,. It it's stationay it'll sound more like a squirt, both origionate from the ACE block on the Chassis rail under the drivers seat. I've been through RAVE with a fine tooth comb and that all seems to tie in with the 12 second refresh.
