Replacement starter 110 csw 1998, cost ??

Question

Anyone any idea what would a reasonable price for a replacement starter motor as the one in at present keeps jamming out and I have to rock the car in gear to shake it free and start the car. Have seen a price at £100 but not sure if fitting charge at reasonable independant garage ?? Tia John H Kent

What engine?If its V8, 'prestolite' ones are available from Paddocks/Cradocks & Co foraround £50/£60 - tho I think Paddocks did have them on offer at one point,so check prices.If it's for a Deisel, then expect to pay closer to £100 or more depending onsource.Reconditioning is about £80-£90 if you can find somewhere local to do it,but it depends on time/hassle vs cost if it actually worth the saving.As for fitting - its worth getting grubby for - a half competant hobbymechanic chould be able to swap a starter in about an hour or so given abasic socket set - there's usually only one wire on a spade connector forthe solenoid, then two fat wires from the alternator & battery on a studheld in place qith 13mm nut, then the starter will be held in with two orthree bolts into the bellhousing.Just look out for the earth brade and if there isn't one fit one.

300 Tdi, I could do it but have just come out if ITU after lung clots solimited as to what I can do. Murphy's law dictates it goes now !!!:-(((

I had the starter for my n/a 2.5 reconditioned. It cost me somewhere between £80 + £100 I think. I went via the local car parts shop. The bloke there obviously works with various other places and he sent it off to be done.
