All,
While starting the cleaning of the underside of my 110 in view of a waxoyl treatment, I found a bit of rust here and there. I can see several options on what to do:
- Remove the rust down to bare clean metal, apply some rust-proof primer (which one?) and over paint (with what?). This is clearly (?) the best solution, but cannot be done on hidden parts (e.g. inside of chassis or where several bits are welded together and difficult to reach).
- Just remove flaking stuff and use rust-proof paint (is "hammerite direct to rust metal paint" the best?). This simplifies a lot the above process, but still can't be used in hidden bits. I've done that in the past on various cars with variable results (not sure why though).
- Same as above but use something like kurust and then paint (with what?).
- Just remove flaking stuff (where possible) and abundantly spray waxoyl. Not too difficult to do and will also work (to some extent) on hidden bits (waxoyl is supposed to go throught dirt and stuff ;-). The only thing to do for the inside of the chassis.
However, I'm not sure which is the best. Would anyone care to comment?
Cheers,
Fred
