Series 2 LandRover fitted with Austin Taxi 2.2 BMC diesel engine

Hi, A friend of mine from Sri Lanka is looking for a cylinder head for the above mentioned engine. This engine was fitted to London Taxis some long time ago also the Morris LD van and the Austin version. This was a local Sri Lankan modification! Roberts

It's a boat engine. seriously... there was a chap in brum had one in a canal boat, and also was a taxista, and some other taxi types said "'ere, how come you've got a taxi engine in yer boat?" to which he replied "how come you've got a boat engine in yer taxi?"

very underpowered. Try the taxi-repairing types would be my bet, there are still a few of 'em in service.

Have a look in Exchange & Mart. The last time I wanted something for this engine there were loads of places doing bits. Was a few years ago though.

The engine was designed for vans, and found it's way in to boats (particularly narrow boats) as being a long-stoke engine it plod along very happily at low revs. It also was flavour of the month in Land Rovers for quite a while as the very good torque at low revs was ideal for off-road use and was pretty much indestructable with , if I remember right, a virtually armour-plated sump. But by god does it weigh!
