V8 Oil Pressure

1986 EFi Range Rover.Have been starting to get a low oil pressure light, when the engine isidling and gearbox in drive.Changed the oil pump gears , pressure relief valve and spring lastnight, and it seem to be better, though still get an occasionalflicker when changing from neutral to drive.I could just ignore it, but if oil pressure is marginal now, suspectit will be almost non-existant in the summer, especially when towing.I guess I have to accept that the main / big end shells are worn so(possibly stupid) question is, can the bearing shells be changed withthe engine in the car (I have access to a proper 4 post ramp)?Anything else I should try before biting the bullet (already using20w/50).David

it is, I said pressure's pressure. and that't true whether it's water pressure in yer kitchen tap or air pressure in yer tyres.

Mentally preparing myself!

Will the strainer clean, or should I replace it? How is it attached to the oil pump pick up pipe? Will I loose the prime in the oil pump?

Clean using petrol or solvent, rinse in paraffin or blow dry with airline.

Strainer gauze is clipped into pickup, 3 detents at 120 degree intervals, complete ass'y bolted to block with 2 7/16AF bolts.

Only if you unscrew the oil filter or any oil cooler pipes.
