Mark,

You killed the ECU? Doh! Where is it located on the TD5?

Two options. One cheaper than the other.

Cheapest is Tapperware type of box with flexible lid. Second and more expensive option is waterproof box for electrical connections/relays.

First option is easier to work with since the plastic is easier to cut. You pass the wiring harness' plug through a hole in the box and then seal it well with silicone. Remember to also pass a small tube, very much like the remote breathers tubing from axles/diffs/gearbox/engine cover, so as to allow atmospheric pressure to exist inside the box in case your ECU has a baromatric pressure sensor.

Secure the Tapperware box with screws on a surface you wish but do apply silicone around the holes. And of course the higher the box is the more waterproof it will stay.

It's under the drivers seat in the Td5 Defender. I killed one in work last year ... oops :-)

Hi Neil,

It's behind the Battery. Went playing on Sunday and was doing a circle in some deep water (5" above bottom of doors - on a Disco that sits 3" higher than normal) and it was lapping over the bonnet on the offside. On the 3rd occasion the engine stalled and wouldn't restart. Got recovered home by LR assistance ;-) Went into dealers and they replaced the injector harness as there was oil contamination - none problem by LR issuing a TSB. Still wouldn't start. They found that there was no signal going to injectors 2 & 5 (shared wire). So now they are going to replace the ECU ;-)

All this is being done under warranty that I just renewed last Friday.

I was looking for a more permanent look but having trouble try to locate a box that can take the size of the ECU. For ventilation I was going to run 2 breather pipes into the box, on opposite sides. One would then be connected into the side of the airbox and the other would be vented to a high point on the bulkhead or even up the snorkel. Inside the airbox would be a vaccum and therefore would draw air through the pipe and in turn would create a constant airflow across the ECU and keep it cool.

EXCELLENT idea !!!!!!

Will be using it on the next waterproofing project on a friend's motor (you see I like diesels more)

Mark,

Warranty?

What's one of them then! I have aquired a "slightly damaged" TD5 so I'm going to have the interior. That will leave the shell, chassis and 1 axle left of the original 300 V8 I bought :) Scary when you think about it....

Hang on...

The shell has been hacked to fit bigger wheels. The chassis was twisted when you bought it The rear axle is inexplicably non-standard

You're supposed to replace the duff bits and keep the good ones, not the other way around!

Neil,

Drop me a line with any bits that you may have left, ie ECUs - might need one as a spare

What are you doing with the existing interior? ISTR it was in fairly good shape...

Tim,

It's off into a 110 :) And yes.....ok, so I've kept all the duff bits of Piglet

Mark,

I'll see what I can dig out.... I may need it to get the autobox to talk to my *old* Land Rover ECU!!!!
