WTB: 101 Fluid Resevoir lids

Any how, back on topic. I have drawn up the three parts of the reservoir, Bottle, lid and inner core. Bottle and lid are in Aluminium, inner core (for the clutch/brake pot) is stainless steel. I think aluminium should be alright with brake fluid, but stand to be corrected ?

I will turn up the first pair and get a decent idea of timing and hence price in the next couple of days. Pictures to follow.

Lots of hydraulic cylinders are cast alloy, so you should be right. JD

Ohhh.. sounds nice.. Is ally and stainless compatible?? I thought they had a disagreement in close contact.

I think we'll be alright electrolytically, since the parts won't be water wet.

It's having the cap of different metal to the body which would worry me; corrosion there would be a problem.

The cap and bottle are the same material. Its the inner chamber which would be stainless.

It is only a problem if exposed to an electrolyte. The brake fluid should not be an electrolyte - if it is it needs changing as it has absorbed water. I can't remember where the reservoirs are on a 101, but unless exposed to slush off the road there should be little chance of a problem from electrolytic corrosion. JD

If their exposed to slush from the road then the driver will be very very wet as they are just to the side of the dashboard :-)

The main problem with them is actually UV light degredation

Looks like the reservoirs will cost around 35 quid for the plain bottle, and 45 quid for the double bottle, including lid. The bottles will take a substantial pressure.

I will TRY and make the lids available as seperate items for say 10 quid, but on my 101 the top of the bottles has failed as well, so its probably false economy.

These prices are based on 20 off numbers for the bottles, to set the machines up.

As I promised, pictrues of the new bottles will be available mid-week.

Am I right in thinking that the thread on the lids will be different from the originals? The reason I ask is that I've bought one of those pressurised bleeding things that uses the tyre pressure and a cap with a hole in. Hence one of the reasons I was after caps in the first place since I drilled a hole in mine. Any suggestions, or would I need a spare cap too do you think? Don't take that as an order just yet, am trying to explain to Emma why I can't afford the tiles in the bathroom, but these make sense. Its proving a challenge :o)

No, I am trying to duplicate the thread, but its a "buttress" thread and not dead easy to screw cut.

Hopefully I'll get the technique off pat soon. Wait til you see the prototypes anyway.
