battery memory keeper

Is there anyone who can tell me where I can purchase a unit that mechanic's have when they replace a car battery, they plug it into the cigar lighter, and it also has a 9 volt battery plugged in on the other end. Thanks.

You can make your own. Just purchase a 12 volt accessory plug and a 9 volt battery connector at a place like Radio Shack. Wire the positive terminal of the 9 volt plug to the positive (center) terminal of the accessory plug, wire the negative to the negative, and you have a home make version of what you can purchase.

Or, write down the stations on the radio before disconnecting the battery. Also make sure you know the security code for the radio if you have programmed one in.

This can work, just be very mindful of the fact that in many cars the cigarette lighter plug is switched by the key....(DOH) and the 9v transistor radio battery has a very tiny, literally fractional amp-hour capacity. Make sure EVERYTHING is off, (remember the automatic headlamps) trunk closed, etc. and work fast. Be careful also not to accidentally short the battery leads under the hood or allow the positive cable to come in contact with anything in the engine compartment. Tip: use rubber gloves.. no, not for you, rather for the positive battery cable end while you have it disconnected. With the inconvenience & cost of having to visit the dealership looming in the back of my mind I'd much rather spend $10~15 for a 12v lantern battery and know that I have a little margin of breathing room than worry about the cost of a temporary "holding" battery and having to race through the job.
