Toyota blocking this Danica Patrick commercial

Yeah, I don't think Toyota's Lexus has anything to compete against a vintage Mustang. ;)

Check out the video:

"GoDaddy was to air its "Speeding" commercial twice during the United States Open this weekend. The ad features GoDaddy gal-pal Danica Patrick in a vintage, American-made Ford Mustang. Late yesterday, GoDaddy was informed Lexus didn't want "Speeding" to air. As the exclusive sponsor of the NBC broadcast, Lexus declared no other automakers can be shown in commercials airing during the United States Open.

Seriously, Lexus? Really? The ad's not about selling cars, it's about selling web sites. Talk about a move that'll do nothing but make you look silly to, you know, every car enthusiast on earth and many web folks as well."

Clealy, Lexus is worried about the thousands of potential customers who've narrowed their choice down to either a new Lexus or a 30 year old Ford. It's a huge demographic.

And yet they let Acura, their direct competition, air ads during the same broadcast. Only an idiot like john would think this is about the Mustang, and not the Go Daddy commercial itself, which looks like it was written and produced by junior high school students.

You're slipping, john. I know you can do better than this.

So, what do you drive, john? Don't be embarrassed, tell us. And don't forget those cute emoticons - they give you more credibility.

That was awful. What were they thinking. Lexus did them a favor.

The ad may be about selling websites, but it is a NASCAR sponsor and uses a Ford. Ford and Toyota may be competing for the sales leader for light vehicles in the US in a few years.

Do you think you could reach any further out on a limb to draw an association? Every ad in the world that employs a car in the ad uses some brand of car. So what? What does it matter that it is a NASCAR sponsor? Sheese - this stuff can be taken way too far.

Selling it? What did it cost you to watch it? Are you going to run out and get some Go-Daddy service, whatever that is? No! Are you going to run out and buy an old Ford mustang? No! Are you going to even speed, hoping that cop will stop you and do a strip search on herself? Not likely!

Did you purposely miss his point? I hope so.

And, yes, sex sells. Can't even be argued. Running that ad, GoDaddy will almost certainly grab the attention of plenty of folks (perhaps not you) and plant their name firmly in the minds of potential and future customers.

The ad that runs on TV is nothing like the YouTube ad; much tamer. The current Mustang looks very much like that 70.
