214 wiper motors

I don't know if they have "history" in general - but I had a front motor fail in a 1996 220 SDi at about 110,000 miles and five years old. Got a scrapyard replacement of a similar age and it lasted 4 weeks. A further scrapyard one managed 10 months and then failed the day before the car was booked in for its MOT. At which point I bought a new one from the local factors - no further problems over the next 5 years/80,000 miles.

My front wiper motor works on 'regular wipe' and fast wipe but gives up the ghost on intermittent. The rear wiper hasn't worked for 2 years.

So either there's no constant 12V feed to it or the internal park switch is knackered.

A small switch inside the motor which cuts the power when it has returned to the park position for the wipers. It continues to power the motor when you've turned it off or it's on interval to allow the wipers to complete a full pass.

The rear wiper will be a broken wire in the loom next to the boot hinge. It's a very common problem on these. Unseat the rubber boot covering it and it'll be fairly obvious.

Is there any hope of repairing this switch without replacing the wiper motor?

Check the feed first. If that's OK, you're looking at getting another motor from the scrappies.

The power feed is ok as the regular and fast wipe work perfectly.

There should be an ignition switched feed permanently to the motor (to provide parking power.)
