'95 fiesta blowing fuses.

I went out to my car to go to work this morning and discovered that there was no power to the clock or stereo. I opened up the fusebox cover and checked fuse 2 (clock+stereo) - it was blown. A few minutes later it was replaced but as soon as I reconnected the battery it instantly blew.

Hmmm, possibly a faulty fuse I thought so I repeated the process with another and got the same result. This was a new unopened pack of fuses - maybe a faulty batch so removed another 15a fuse from the board and slotted it into position and pop.

The car had been parked overnight and had been running fine 7 hours previously.

Any ideas about where to start?

TIA.

Almost certainly a short to earth. One fuse can blow because it's old, knackered or both, but if you replace it and it instantly blows there's a problem. My money would be on the stereo rather than the clock. Does the fuse cover anything else? 15a would seem a lot just for a stereo and clock.

Is it the original manufacturers stereo or a later addition?

First action I would disconnect the stereo and see if the fuse is ok with just the clock.

have you got a cigarette lighter that you plug a mobile phone charger in to it, ive seen a few of these pop fuses if they are left in the holder for too long.

Well done Reg you win a coconut!

It was indeed the cigarette lighter - I had been charging my phone on the way home last night and caused a short.

All fixed now.

BTW you dont get faulty fuses one after another. They are doing the job they were designed to do.
